Pre-Holiday Wrap Up

November - We’re heading into a holiday week and I don’t know about you, but I’ve got menus, grocery lists, and house cleaning on the brain. Along with the almost continuous buzz of leaf blowers — the suburban song of fall. But before I surrender to domestic frenzy, I wanted to give you some follow up on previously mentioned projects.

First . . .

I will be having another art giveaway for email subscribers in February!

My “big” creative project this fall was purely personal. I participated in Birdtober on Instagram. Challenges like this provide both a reason and the motivation to work consistently in a subject and/or skillset. For me this was birds and watercolor sketching. Each day of October brought a new bird prompt. I completed all 31 of them, picking up some interesting bird facts along the way. At the end of the month I bound the drawings within the cover of a vintage Reader’s Digest book. You can see a flip through of the book in my Instagram profile here.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Studio Sale I held here at the house in October. I enjoyed pulling everything out and recreating some favorite booth displays, and then of course the pleasure of having friends come by and sending beloved pieces off to new homes. Arranging displays (vignettes), plays into the same love of composition I draw on for assemblage and collage. So I think I may be looking for booth opportunities once we’re comfortably resettled in western North Carolina.

After the Studio Sale I still had a number of Christmas items (my Christmas enthusiasm contributed to a very large collection in 2024) and they are currently for sale at Bayleaf Market in Raleigh. I’m not doing a collection this year, but fortunately I do have a seasonal project. My friend Courtney has commissioned a Whimsy Box home for these sweet little bears, mementos from her own childhood Christmases. I’ll post a photo on Instagram when the commission is complete.

Now I’m off to help Matt move the dining room table into the living room (and living room furniture into the dining room) so that we have the space to expand the table to seat 12. That is, if I can pull him away from the leaf blower. And I’ll be wishing you many reasons to give thanks during a very happy Thanksgiving!
