May — We’re almost at the year’s midpoint and in another of the year’s transition times. May seems always to be a month for wrapping-things-up in a flurry of activity. Are you happy with how 2022 is shaping up for you and yours? We’ve been inundated with waves of dark news for the past months, years — always? I keep my head above water by focusing on the beauty in the world and the life around me. Life going on around here: Maddie finished up her Sophomore year at NC State and has headed to Florence Italy for a summer study program. Caroline is almost there with her junior year of high school, but is currently still up to her ears in end-of-the-year assessments for the IB Diploma program. Two goals I set earlier in the year came to fruition this month: I completed #the100dayproject challenge on Instagram, posting my 100th small mixed media composition on May 23rd — day 100. And I hosted an art journaling workshop at Bayleaf Market on May 5th. We had a lovely evening — Bayleaf Market’s new classroom space lends itself to the warm fuzzies. I’m planning to teach more art journaling workshops (and possibly one or two for Christmas decorations) in the fall. Over the summer I want to work my way through a number of online classes I’ve bought but haven’t completed (always a hazard with “access anytime” stuff), work on three different mixed media collections, explore new directions for my art business, and squeeze in some family travel (unlike Maddie, I’ll be staying stateside.) I’m feeling well-positioned to journey into the rest of 2022. How about you? Are you gearing up for travel, a special summer project? Or maybe just looking to slow things down a little bit — a tall order in our frantically-paced society, but here’s hoping we can all savor some of the lazy days for which summer is known.
